Dust and water resistance /IK grade test

Dust and water resistance /IK grade test

  Dust-proof test

  [Project Introduction]

There are dust-proof test requirements for portable, outdoor and automotive electronics. Internationally, whether it is IEC, MIL, ETSI or SAE, corresponding test requirements have been formulated.

IEC/EN60529 Dust prevention is divided into 7 grades (grades 0 to 6), and dust prevention grades (e.g. IP5X- Dust prevention grade 5)

Level 0: Completely no dust protection

Level 1: It can protect against foreign objects with a diameter greater than 50mm from falling into the equipment

Level 2: It can protect against foreign objects with a diameter greater than 12.5mm from falling into the equipment

Level 3: It can protect against foreign objects with a diameter greater than 2.5mm from falling into the equipment

Level 4: It can protect against foreign objects with a diameter greater than 1.00mm from falling into the equipment

Level 5: It cannot completely prevent dust from entering, but the amount of dust entering must not affect the normal operation of the equipment and must not affect safety

  Level 6: Completely dust-proof

  Waterproof test

  [Project Introduction]

There are waterproof testing requirements for portable, outdoor and automotive electronics. Internationally, whether it is IEC, MIL, ETSI or SAE, corresponding testing requirements have been formulated.

IEC/EN60529 waterproofing is divided into 9 grades (grades 0 to 8), and waterproofing grades (e.g. IPX4- waterproofing grade 4) :

Level 0: Completely waterproof and unprotected

Level 1: Dripping water in the vertical direction should have no harmful effects

Level 2: When the vertical surfaces of the shell are inclined within a range of 15°, vertical dripping water should have no harmful effect

Level 3: Watering within a 60° range on each vertical plane has no harmful effect

Level 4: Splashing water in all directions of the shell has no harmful effect

Level 5: Spraying water in all directions of the shell has no harmful effect

Level 6: Strongly spraying water in all directions of the shell has no harmful effect

Level 7: After being immersed in water at a specified pressure for a specified period of time, the amount of water entering the casing will not reach a harmful level

Level 8: After continuous diving under the conditions agreed upon by both the manufacturer and the user (which should be harsher than Level 7), the amount of water entering the shell shall not reach a harmful level

  IK level test

  [Project Introduction]

The application of IK codes usually applies to the protection level for the entire enclosure. If certain parts of the enclosure have different protection grades, the corresponding protection grades should be marked. If the relevant product committee decides to require the marking of the IK code, the marking requirements shall be specified in detail in its relevant product standards. Product standards should also stipulate the marking methods adopted in the following circumstances: 1. The protection grade of a certain part of the same enclosure is different from that of other parts; 2. The installation status will affect the level of enclosure protection.

  [Business Scope]

  1. Computer-related: computers, display screens, mainframes, computer components, medical equipment and other precision instruments, etc

  2. Electronic communication category: mobile phones, radio frequency devices, electronic communication components, etc.

  3. Electrical appliances: Household appliances, lamps, transformers and other types of household appliances and electrical equipment;

  4. Others: Packaging boxes, transportation equipment, etc.

[Characteristic Numbers of IK Codes and Their Definitions]

The correspondence between the IK code and its corresponding collision energy f:

  IK codes: IK00, IKO1, IK02, IK03, IK04, IK05, IK06, IK07, IK08, IK09, IK10

  Collision energy //J a 0.14 0.2 0.35 0.5 0.7 1 2 5 10 20

Note 1: If a higher collision energy is required, it is recommended to take the value of 50J.

Note 2: Some national standards use one digit to represent the specified collision energy. To avoid confusion, two digits are selected for the characteristic number.
