Salt spray test
[Project Introduction]
Salt spray test is an environmental test that uses salt spray test equipment to create an artificial simulated salt spray environment condition to confirm the corrosion resistance of products or metal materials. The severity of the test depends on the duration of exposure.
Laboratory simulated salt spray can be classified into three types: neutral salt spray test, acetic acid salt spray test, and copper salt-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test.
Neutral salt spray test (NSS test) is the earliest and most widely used accelerated corrosion test method at present. It adopts a 5% sodium chloride salt water solution, and the PH value of the solution is adjusted within the neutral range (6.5-7.2) as the solution for spraying. The test temperature was all set at 35℃, and the sedimentation rate of salt spray was required to be 1-2ml/80cm/h.
(2) The acetic acid salt spray test (ASS test) was developed on the basis of the neutral salt spray test. It is achieved by adding some glacial acetic acid to a 5% sodium chloride solution, which reduces the PH value of the solution to around 3, making the solution acidic. Eventually, the salt spray formed also changes from neutral to acidic. Its corrosion rate is about three times faster than that of the NSS test.
(3) The copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test (CASS test) is a newly developed rapid salt spray corrosion test abroad. The test temperature is 50℃, and a small amount of copper salt - copper chloride is added to the salt solution to strongly induce corrosion. Its corrosion rate is approximately eight times that of the NSS test.
